{"id":7519,"date":"2010-12-16T13:50:02","date_gmt":"2010-12-16T03:50:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/michael.ellerman.id.au\/blog\/?p=7519"},"modified":"2014-10-12T19:34:50","modified_gmt":"2014-10-12T09:34:50","slug":"support-independent-games-on-linux","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/michael.ellerman.id.au\/blog\/2010\/12\/16\/support-independent-games-on-linux\/","title":{"rendered":"Support independent games on Linux"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you like Linux and you like games, then you should head over and check out the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.humblebundle.com\/\">Humble Indie Bundle #2<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a collection of five games:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Braid_(video_game)\">Braid<\/a>, innovative and award winning, and previously Xbox only.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cortex_Command\">Cortex Command<\/a>, a sort of resource extraction + action game, featuring disembodied brains.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Machinarium\">Machinarium<\/a>, a point and click brain teaser game, with great artwork.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Osmos\">Osmos<\/a>, where you float around absorbing other blobs, with an awesome ambient sound track.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.puppygames.net\/revenge-of-the-titans\/\">Revenge of the Titans<\/a>, a resource extraction and base building game, think Command &amp; Conquer for the ADHD generation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.humblebundle.com\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7524\" title=\"Humble Indie Bundle #2\" src=\"\/media\/uploads\/\/2010\/12\/hib.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"192\" srcset=\"\/media\/uploads\/2010\/12\/hib.png 600w, \/media\/uploads\/2010\/12\/hib-300x96.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>What makes it really stand out is they all support Linux, they are all DRM free, and you can choose how much you want to pay.<\/p>\n<p>To top it of some of the money goes to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.childsplaycharity.org\/\">Child&#8217;s Play<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eff.org\/\">EFF<\/a>. And don&#8217;t worry, giving money to the EFF <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/media\/2010\/oct\/26\/wikileaks-fox-iraq-war-logs\">doesn&#8217;t make you an enemy combatant<\/a> .. yet.<\/p>\n<p>They also have data on how much people are paying for the bundle, which is quite interesting. Currently the average amount paid by Windows users is $6.07, Mac users $8.23, and Linux users <strong>$13.68<\/strong>. So despite being a band of unwashed hippy communists, it seems Linux users are more generous when it comes to opening their wallets.<\/p>\n<p>ps.
