{"id":7018,"date":"2005-06-17T17:53:15","date_gmt":"2005-06-17T07:53:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/michael.ellerman.id.au\/blog\/2005\/06\/17\/oh-to-be-a-poet\/"},"modified":"2007-10-25T13:50:34","modified_gmt":"2007-10-25T03:50:34","slug":"oh-to-be-a-poet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/michael.ellerman.id.au\/blog\/2005\/06\/17\/oh-to-be-a-poet\/","title":{"rendered":"Oh to be a poet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/mpe\/uploads\/2005\/06\/17\/oh-to-be-a-poet\/reckoning.png\" class=\"floattop\" \/>I was listening to a lot of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.audioscrobbler.com\/music\/Ani+DiFranco\">Ani Difranco<\/a> over the long weekend, it was the right sort of weather for (some of) her music.<\/p>\n<p>She&#8217;s a brilliant guitarist, but more than anything I just love her lyrics.<\/p>\n<p>I got stuck on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.danah.org\/Ani\/Reckoning\/SchoolNight.html\">School Night<\/a> for a while, particularly the first verse and chorus:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p> she went over to his apartment<\/p>\n<p>clutching her decision<\/p>\n<p>and he said, did you come here to tell me goodbye?<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>and she said:<\/p>\n<p>you are a miracle but that is not all<\/p>\n<p>you are also a stiff drink and i am on call<\/p>\n<p><strong>you are a party and i am a school night<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>and i&#8217;m lookin&#8217; for my door key<\/p>\n<p>but you are my porch light<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>What a cool way to get dumped.<\/p>\n<p>I also love the imagery in the first section of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.danah.org\/Ani\/Reckoning\/YourNextBoldMove.html\">Your next bold move<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p> coming of age during the plague<\/p>\n<p>of <strike>reagan<\/strike> howard and bush<\/p>\n<p>watching capitalism gun down democracy<\/p>\n<p>it had this funny effect on me<\/p>\n<p>i guess<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I was listening to a lot of Ani Difranco over the long weekend, it was the right sort of weather for (some of) her music.
