The weekend .. happened

Sheesh, that was a long weekend.

The fun started with Guinness, obviously, and Thai .. ? But a good combination it was, and the Irish music at Filthy’s only almost drove us crazy.

Went for a great bike ride on Saturday with Meg. Started out with “let’s ride to Tilley’s”, and four hours later we’d ridden through Dickson, Turner, O’Connor, Bruce, Aranda, Cook, up the back of Black Mountain and back through the city .. phew. We never did get to Tilley’s, that can be another weekend.

Saturday night a few of us headed to the Phoenix, and quite unintentionally it ended up being boys night, with Ben, Rob, Tom and I attending. After a few ales we decided to ride to Ben’s, which involved me borrowing a bike off Rob, exploding both tires on it and then riding the rest of the way on the rims. Ouch.

Sunday was spent eating bacon and eggs (thanks Ben!), followed by an interesting trip back to Rob’s with said bike.

Then after a few shenanigans involving Gilby’s nearly exploding tires, we managed to ride to and then up Mt Ainslie. Great view from the top, pity about the lung bursting, brain splitting ascent. For the record I did it in 19 flat and Gilby flogged me with 17:54, Rob is still on his way up. Hi Rob!

It’s a real pity the speed limit is 70kmh, otherwise I reckon we might have got up to somewhere near 81kmh on the descent, probably would have averaged about 60kmh I’d say, and generally would have flown down the hill. Oh well.

Monday was going to be a bush walk, but being Monday everything happened a little slowly and so Meg and I just walked around Mt Ainslie. As it turns out that’s actually a pretty insane walk, especially as we detoured through Campbell to the lake. By the time we got home our footsies were a little tired, but it was a great day for it, and nice to explore the local surroundings.

To round it all out, a few of us congregated at Catherine’s Monday night, for a few beers and some food. I partook of a hamburger from the somewhat suprising vendor of the best hamburgers in Canberra. Phew.
