The Good, the Also Good, and the Completely Shithouse

Shithouse

That would be this, requires flash. Probably not work safe, or kid safe, but boy should George W. and Alexander Bummer be watching that 24/7. I guess that’s the price of freedom.

Good

Went Go-karting on the weekend with some of the Ozlabs lads, ostensibly for Chris’ birthday, but actually as a ruse so that Kelly could set up his surprise birthday party.

I hadn’t been Go-karting for maybe ten years, and I don’t remember it being quite so hard on the arms, or so generally physically painful.

It must have been because I passed him about 50 times, but towards the end Chris nudged me into a wall coming down the back straight, which slowed me down a little. That would have been ok, except Rusty then slammed into the back of me at full speed.

The end result was a few bruises, an engine leaking oil over the track, and my kart not having the requisite number of wheels anymore. Carnage!

The guys at the Kart place were really good about it, I thought they were gonna be really pissed ’cause I broke their kart. But they were mainly worried that I’d hurt myself.

The surprise party was pretty cool, it was even a surprise! Chris actually missed half the fun which was organising it all without him knowing. And stuff like Anton, Jeremy and I hiding behind hedges so that we didn’t get spotted on our way to Chris’ apartment. Heehehe.

I drank a bit too much, but hey it was a cocktail party! I was pretty proud that I managed to convince Anton to head to the Phoenix in full cocktail gear, including Top Hat. If only I had photos!

Also Good

Went for a bit of a climb on Wednesday for the ANUMC club night. It was my first time back climbing (vertically) since I was sick. Boy do I suck, it’s amazing how much fitness I’ve lost.

Was good to see some familiar faces, and some new ones. I climbed with the ever nutty Jose who’s in pretty good form, and received encouragement of sorts from crazy Maurice, I wouldn’t know though ’cause it was all in surrender-monkey-ese.

It’s true that this picture of the Watzmann isn’t really all that related to climbing at the ANU. But I just stumbled across it, and I like it. Perhaps one day I’ll climb it.

I did climb the peak immediately behind (just poking out on the right) when I was there last year, that’s the Grosser Hundstod, 2,593 metres. Looks like the weather’s good, if only I could pop over!
