I only had one night to spare as I wanted to visit my (other) relos in Frankfurt, but we made the best of it.
Daniel’s not a big fan of Ilmenau but I quite liked it. It was a very groovy bar that’s been crafted to feel just like someone’s living room, it was homey. We had a few drinks and ambled around town, it wasn’t very lively, even the McDonald’s was shut by midnight.
The next day we trained to Arnstadt where we had the world’s best pizza before I jumped on a train to Frankfurt. A lightening visit to be sure, but worth it to hang out with Daniel just a bit more.

In Frankfurt I stayed with Christjana and Dieter in their lovely house. We stayed up very late and drank lots of wine and talked about all sorts of stuff, it was wonderful.
On my last full day in Germany (sniff!) I touristed it around Frankfurt a bit more and bought lots of cheap outdoor gear, what fun! In the evening I picked Sarah up from the Hauptbahnhof.
It happenend to be Christjana and Dieter’s wedding anniversary, so we got to meet a bunch of the family and had an absolute feast for dinner, what excellent timing.
The next morning we fronted up at the airport, and after a small incident involving a stone cat, made it on to the first leg of our 40 hour homeward journey. What a top trip.
